Space to Thrive

Green Vale students feel genuine ownership of their learning  and play spaces.  It is their campus, and they occupy it with confidence and joy.  Moving from class to class is orderly but by no means silent or strict.  This contributes to the overall sense of belonging they feel at school.

The interactive map below describes some of the many highlights of Green Vale's 40-acre campus.

Map Points 2

Lower School (1st-3rd Grades)

This building was original to our founding in 1923, and once contained the entire school. Now, it’s home to our Lower School, 1st - 3rd grades. During Lower School, the foundation is set for all future learning. Students master above-grade level academics in a nurturing environment where they become skillful readers, writers and thinkers.

Lower School East (4th-5th Grades)

Auerbach Lower School East is home to 4th and 5th grades. While also technically part of our Lower School, this building boasts a more "grown up" atmosphere. Students begin to prepare for Upper School with the use of lockers, more movement between classes, and a focus on strong self-advocacy and executive functioning skills that allow them to take on new challenges and subjects.

Iselin Center (Middle School)
Originally built in 1969, with initiative from former Board President Oliver Iselin, the Iselin Center is now comprised of the Harris Theater, Upper School humanities classrooms, the all-school Qin Library, a state-of-the-art computer lab (Kenny-Grace Technology Center) and more.
Harris Theater
Artistic expression fills the air of the Harris Theater as GVS students hone their creative talents through music, art, theater, and chorus. From full theatrical productions to seasonal band/orchestra/choral concerts, there’s no shortage of opportunities to shine. This space is also utilized for special guest speakers, meetings, assemblies, and more.
Qin Library
The Qin Library is an all-school library complete with a large variety of age-appropriate books, a playful young learner’s corner, STEM centers, collaborative media scape hubs, a full research center and more.
Bacon & Biondi Building (Middle School)
The Bacon & Biondi Building, a part of Upper School connected to the Iselin Center, is a state-of-the-art STEM building, comprised of math, science & technology classrooms.
Schwerin Early Childhood Center (PN-K)

The Early Childhood building, opened in 2001, encompasses the critical years from age 2 to Kindergarten. A dedicated building designed specifically for child-centric education for this age helps ensure that each child loves school and loves learning from day one.

Dining Hall

Students in K to 8th grade gather around the table in the Dining Hall and discuss the day’s happenings while enjoying a delicious (and nutritious) hot lunch served family style or a variety of other healthy food options, including a full salad bar, hot soup and more.

Rogers Quad

Rogers Quad is a staple on the GVS campus for outdoor play & learning, picnic lunches, and community events.

Amphitheater

The outdoor amphitheater is a unique space used for school assemblies, the 4th grade blue/gold induction, and other community events.

Watters Center (Athletics)

The Watters Center, named after longtime former Head of School, Stephen H. Watters, is an expansive multi-purpose athletic and events facility, complete with a double gymnasium, a dance studio, fitness room and meeting spaces.

Athletic Fields

Multiple sprawling athletic fields (including the Bill Hiss memorial field) create the perfect backdrop for seasonal sports, outdoor physical education classes, various school sporting events, and more!

1st-5th Grade Playground

The Lower School playground (1st to 5th grade) is complete with age-appropriate play equipment and is a great time to let out a little bit of energy and catch up with friends during a break in the school day.

Administration Offices
The GVS Administration building is home to our welcoming front office staff, as well as the offices of the Head of School, Associate Head of School, Communications, Development, Finance, Facilities & Security, and more.
Head of School's Residence

Our Head of School, Jesse Dougherty, lives in this beautiful home on campus with his wife Dr. Rebecca Dougherty, and their children Quinn '19, Fiona '21 and Liam '25 and their two labradors Libby and Guinness.

Security Booth - Gate A
Campus security remains a top priority for GVS. A full-time staff of security personnel (all retired police officers) patrol the campus during operational hours, and security entrance gates remain locked while school is in session. The entire campus is equipped with cameras and swipe cards are needed for entry into the buildings. All visitors must enter and sign in through the main security gate.
Fruit Orchard
GVS students enjoy fresh seasonal fruit from the organic fruit orchard all season long!
Science Pond
Security Booth - Gate C

Campus security remains a top priority for GVS. A full-time staff of security personnel (all retired police officers) patrol the campus during operational hours, and security entrance gates remain locked while school is in session. The entire campus is equipped with cameras and swipe cards are needed for entry into the buildings. All visitors must enter and sign in through the main security gate.

Early Childhood Playground
To us, it’s a playground. To them, it’s an adventure park. The EC playground (Pre-N to K) is the best of both worlds: completely safe and completely fun! Our little learners utilize every inch while they climb on age-appropriate equipment, zip around on bikes/scooters (with helmets, of course), socialize with friends and let off a little steam!
